Safer sleep advice for babies
Whether you're at home or on the go, these core recommendations, based on pediatric guidance and expert consensus, can support better rest for both of you:
• Always place your baby on their back to sleep, not on the stomach or side.
• Use a firm, flat sleep surface that supports safe positioning —such as a crib, bassinet, or baby nest that’s designed for safe sleep.
• Keep the sleep area clear of pillows, loose blankets, and toys.
• Ensure free airways and a safe temperature (not too hot, not too cold).
• Avoid overheating by dressing your baby in breathable layers suited to the room temperature. Scroll down to see our sleepwear temperature guide.
• Room-sharing is recommended during the first 6–12 months.
These simple rules help reduce the risk of SIDS and promote healthy sleep habits from day one. The Najell Babynest SleepCarrier X is created with these recommendations in mind—supporting your baby’s sleep wherever you are.
Note: Recommendations for safe sleep can vary between countries. Always check and follow your local guidelines for the most up-to-date advice in your area.

How to dress your baby for sleep
Dressing your baby for sleep depends on room temperature and the thermal insulation (TOG rating) of their sleeping bag or clothing. Use this guide to combine bodysuits and sleeping bags for safe and comfortable sleep:
27°C+ / 80°F+: Sleeveless bodysuit or short-sleeved bodysuit
24–27°C / 75–80°F: Short-sleeved bodysuit or sleeveless romper + 0.2–0.5 TOG sleeping bag
21–24°C / 71–75°F: Short-sleeved bodysuit + 0.5 TOG sleeping bag
18–21°C / 64–70°F: Long-sleeved bodysuit or footed sleepsuit + 1.0 TOG sleeping bag
15–18°C / 59–64°F: Bodysuit + footed sleepsuit + 2.5 TOG sleeping bag
The Najell Sleeping Bag keeps your baby cozy year-round. Use it as a lightweight 0.5 TOG in warmer weather, or add the insert to turn it into a warmer 2.5 TOG for chilly nights.
Tip: Check your baby’s temperature by feeling the back of their neck. If they feel hot or sweaty, remove a layer.

Creating a safe and comfortable sleep space
Every family finds their own rhythm when it comes to sleep. Whether your baby naps in a crib, bassinet, or in a baby nest beside you in bed, what matters most is that the space feels safe, calm, and works for your lifestyle.
During the first 6–12 months, the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare and many pediatric experts recommend room-sharing: placing your baby to sleep in their own safe space within arm’s reach, such as a crib or baby nest. This allows for closeness while reducing the risk of sleep-related incidents.
Some parents choose to bed-share. If you do, it’s important to follow safety guidelines recommended by organizations such as the Lullaby Trust: avoid soft bedding or pillows near your baby, keep them away from the edge, and make sure the sleep surface is firm and flat. Avoid bed-sharing if you’ve been smoking, drinking, or are overly tired.
